Is Indian getting a new Defence Minister? The first clue was given when the then defence Minister Manohar Parrikar was sent back to Goa politics. Mr Parrikar was performing well in his assigned task but they sent him back saying that Goa needs him. Later the responsibility of handling the defence ministry was handed over to Arun Jaitley who even handles the Finance Ministry.
The Chanakya of BJP, Amit Shah is more likely to get a very powerful portfolio in the Union Cabinet, perhaps defence ministry. In the BJP camp, he is as powerful as PM Modi because he initially started with the campaign “Congress Mukt Bharath” (Congress free India) but now he is slowly achieving “Vipaksh Mukt Bharat” (Opposition-free India). It was speculated that he would enter the Union Cabinet after Modi became the PM. But Modi and Amit shah had some other plan. Mr Amit held the position of BJP President until they destroyed Congress in almost every state.
Till date, Mr Amit Shah was planning BJP’s election strategies and didn’t hold any key positions in central ministry. But now, time has come for him to enter PM Modi’s cabinet. Amit Shah along with Smriti Irani even filed nominations for the Rajya Sabha elections.
In the coming days, a major reshuffle is going to happen in the NDA camp as Nitish Kumar joined NDA. So, few of the JD (U) members are going to get certain portfolios in Modi’s cabinet.
BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu is all set to become the next Vice President. After A M Dave expired, Dr Harshvardhan is handling his portfolio. Due to this, several portfolios are handled as additional responsibility by Ministers. So, BJP may allot one portfolio to an individual so that they can deliver what is expected.
The big question is who will be the BJP President after Amit Shah is allocated a portfolio in the Union Cabinet. The BJP was almost invincible under the leadership of Mr Amit Shah so the next President will be having immense pressure to deliver in the upcoming state elections.
This position may be efficiently handled by Om Mathur, who is close to PM Modi and also to the RSS. Recently in Uttar Pradesh elections, he proved that he can safely drive BJP towards victory. It was even heard that Om Mathur may replace Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhra Raje.
BJP strictly follows the age factor because even Najma Heptullah had quit the Union Cabinet after she turned 75 years, later she was made the governor of Manipur. Union Minister Kalraj Mishra will also turn 75 soon. Even his vacancy must be filled by someone else.
Considering all these, we can expect a major reshuffle in the cabinet and Amit Shah may be handed over with the Defence Ministry.
