Big Breaking!!! ISRO successfully launched its 100th satellite today

The new year for the Indian scientists has started off well. Today, January 12th, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully launched its 100th satellite from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh.

Key points!

  • The Cartosat 2 series satellite is the third satellite in the Cartosat series which is made with the objective of providing high-resolution scene-specific spot imagery which will be used for Land Information System (LIS) as well as Geographical Information System (GIS)-based applications.
  • The satellite is on the heavier side, weighing 710 kg.
  • The launch will be said to be successful only after all the 31 satellites have been put into orbit. Surprisingly, 30 satellites were launched successfully.
  • This satellite is the seventh remote sensing satellite in its series and has the mission life of five years.

This rocket specialist will be Chairman of India’s space agency ISRO for a three-year term. “I am humbled by this appointment as legendary leaders have held this position in the past. Taking ISRO humbly into a new orbit would be my endeavour, serving both India and ISRO”, he said.
