Mamata Banerjee has been the appeaser-in-chief for the last few years. She has never been in good terms with the central government. She was one of the leaders who wanted PM Modi removed, after his historic demonetisation move. And now her problems are just going to get bigger. The Modi Government is all set to seal the 223.7 km Indo-Bangladesh border by mid-2018. Her vote bank which was largely influenced by the illegal entry of Bangladeshi immigrants is expected to take a hit.

The determined announcement was made by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh. The home minister was addressing the BJP party workers in Guwahati. He disclosed that sealing & security would be top priorities of the government. The Government was also confident of completing the project within 18 months.

Rajnath Singh also said that India shares a warm & good relation with Bangladesh, which it would like to continue to pursue & stay committed to in the future. He further said “We are committed to the Assam Accord and will protect it even if we have to amend the constitution.” He told the BJP workers that the process of updating the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam was on and that the state government should complete it soon.

The Union Minister said that there will be no compromise on issues of insurgency in the state. He was happy to report that the violence had considerably come down in the state of Assam. He further stated that if anyone had any grievance, problems or issues the Central Government was ready to talk to them & embrace them, but if there is violence, then there would be no compromise.

Rajnath Singh said that this was a conscious decision taken by the Modi Government to highlight the 20 million estimates of illegal Bangladeshi migrants residing in India. BJP is in power in Assam, which with West Bengal shows the highest incidence of illegal immigration from Bangladesh.
