An unexpected incident took place when India’s first full time Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman visited Nathu La pass on the India-China border. All of a sudden she had encountered a group of Chinese soldiers who had turned their camera lenses towards India’s Defence Minister.

The next reaction from Nirmala Sitharaman not just stunned the Chinese but brought a ‘broad smile filled with pride’ on the face of Indian Army personnel standing around her. When the Chinese focused their camera, Mrs Sitharaman turned towards “the row” of Chinese soldiers and waved at them with a wide smile on her face.

She shared this incident on her twitter handle with the caption “Acknowledged a row of Chinese soldiers from across the fence who were taking pictures on my reaching Nathu La”.

At Nathu La, Sitharaman interacted with Indian Army personnel as well as officials of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP). Nathu La is very close to the Doklam plateau were the 70 day long standoff between India and China took place.

Indian Defence Minister says ‘Namaste’ to the Chinese soldiers!!!

In the below video, Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman was seen teaching Chinese soldiers posted near the Sikkim border how to say “Namaste”.

At first, she asked the Chinese whether they know the meaning of Namaste, but they seemed confused as it was not only a new word but also very hard to pronounce. Later she explained that it was Indian form of greeting someone. In China, “Ni hao” is the word used instead of “Namaste”.

So India’s Defence Minister not just boosted the morale of Indian soldiers but also preached Indian culture to the Chinese.

Jai Hind!!!
