More than 65 years after its end, Nazi Germany remains an obsession with millions of people around the world due to its horrific memories left behind in the past.
“Adolf Hitler” remains one of the most prominent historical figures from the 20th century, evoking both disgust and fascination. While other totalitarian regimes including Fascist Italy and imperial Japan have faded in the public’s fascination, Nazi Germany still exerts a powerful hold on many for a variety of reasons. Among the most interesting and perplexing aspects of the Nazi regime was its connection to India and Hinduism. Indeed, Hitler took the most prominent symbol of ancient India “the swastika” as his own. This article highlights and relates to his fondness for ancient Hindu mythology and Vedic scriptures.
The link between Nazi Germany and ancient India, however, goes deeper than the swastika symbol. The Nazis venerated the notion of a “pure, noble Aryan race,” who are believed to have invaded India thousands of years ago and established a society based on a rigid social structure, or castes.
While the scholars in India and Europe have rejected the notion of an “Aryan race, the myths and legends of ancient Vedic-Hindu India have imparted a tremendous influence on Germany”. Perhaps the most fervent Nazi adherent to Indian Hindu traditions was Hitler, one of the most brutal dictators of the times. He remains responsible for the deaths of millions of Jews as an architect of the Holocaust, was a highly complex and fascinating man. He was also obsessed with India and Hinduism.
It is not known to many that Hitler had developed a huge interest in Sanskrit Vedic Scriptures, as he believed they held the Knowledge of the enormous power of mankind. Hitler was associated with a Famous Indian scholar.
This sheer curiosity got him in contact with a renowned scholarly priest from Andhra Pradesh “Brahmashri Dandibhatla Vishwanatha Shashtri”.
As the story goes in 1938, Brahmashri Dandibhatla Vishwanatha Shashtri from Rajamahendravaram was invited by a few German scientists who worked for Hitler to help them in decoding the rahasya (secret) mantras which were used for Missile Technology in World War by Germans.
Vishwanatha Shashtri was a child prodigy who studied Tarka (logic), Vyakarana (grammar) and Mimamsa (dilemma). He had mastered the entire Yajurveda karma Kanda Bhaga and AtharVeda mantra Prayoga Bhaga (application part).
It is interesting to note, that the Nazis developed the first practical pulse-jet engines for their V-8 rocket “buzz bombs”. Hitler and his Nazi staff were exceptionally interested in ancient India and Tibet and sent expeditions to both these places yearly, starting in the 1930’s, in order to gather esoteric evidence that they did so, and perhaps it was from these people that the Nazis gained some of their scientific information.
Supporting this theory, several editorial pieces were gathered with a brief description, according to which the Vedic scholar was invited by German scientists and scholars at the Munich University.
When Hitler heard of this great scholar, he asked his people working in the Munich University to invite him; where he was offered an honorary position within the Sanskrit Department. And till this day, a huge portrait of Brahmashri Dandibhatla Vishwanatha Shashtri remains hung on the wall at the University of Frankfurt, Germany, in his honor.
Inspired by the weapons in Hinduism!
Hitler had heard of the massive destructive weapons mentioned in the Hindu legendary works, which was a blow to his curiosity and to make sense of it or to say find the genuineness of ancient claims. Therefore, if true, he wanted this knowledge for his War Missiles before the World War II.
He was highly fantasized by the powerful weapons used during the wars of Ramayana and Mahabharata and how these weapons were built up during that era, without any form of technological advancements. His only aim was to get this secret of explosives.
This example of Germany and Hitler was yet another addition to those stories of foreign nations stealing source and knowledge from Indian origins. This has not happened for the very first time through the decades. Dictators and others are said to have stolen many source of inventions from Indians and selfishly named it after them.
