Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 11, 2017, made India once again remember & recollect 9/11 speech of Swami Vivekananda’s speech at Chicago in 1893, which took the world by storm.

Our PM Modi while addressing a student’s Convention in New Delhi Vigyan Bhavan, to mark the 125th anniversary of Swami Vivekananda’s address at the World’s Parliament of Religions, said – “Who would have thought that anyone would be interested in celebrating a 125-year-old speech”, said Narendra Modi. He also further stated that Swami Vivekananda address at the Parliament of Religions talked about issues and subjects that are more relevant than ever.

Swami Vivekananda in his opening address to the Parliament of Religions said,“I am proud to tell you that we have gathered in our bosom the purest remnant of the Israelites, who came to Southern India and took the Refuge with us in the very year in which their holy temple was shattered to pieces by Roman tyranny”. Religion that Teaches Tolerance, now off late we find that in India the usage of word intolerance, Swami Vivekananda in 1893 said that he was “Proud to belong to a religion which has taught the world both tolerance but we accept all religions as true”, he said in Chicago.

Swami Vivekananda also spoke on Religion that teaches Tolerance– With Indians debating the rise of religious intolerance in our Nation, Swami Vivekananda in 1893 said “We Believe not only in Universal toleration but we accept all religions as true”, he said in Chicago. Swami Vivekananda went Further in his speech and expressed his views which sounds ominous today too—” Sectarianism, bigotry, and its horrible descendant, fanaticism, have long possessed this beautiful Earth. They have filled the Earth with Violence, drenched it often with human blood, destroyed civilisation and sent whole nations to despair”. Swami Vivekananda talked about Diversity of Religions—Swami Vivekananda talked about diversity of religions and the need for peaceful existence of all religions.

In his Speech” Why we Disagree,” Swami Vivekananda said, “Iam a Hindu. I am sitting in my own little well and thinking that the whole world is my little well. The Christians sit in their little well and think the whole world is their well. The Muslims sit in their little well and think that is the whole world.”

The Theme of the Programme- “Young India, New India—A Resurgent Nation: from Sankalp se Siddhi”. However, we found the politics of Hypocrisy was played by West Bengal Government which had refused to pay heed to the UGC circular creating a row as usual by Mamta Di, CM of West Bengal.

Our PM Modi with reference to Swami Vivekanda’s speech at Chicago, he said Before the Terror attacks, there was another by 9/11, made famous by a young man from this Nation, wearing saffron robes entered Chicago. Our PM further spoke on Swami Vivekananda “Whenever he got an opportunity to speak acrossthe world, he would never be tired of showcasing India’s culture, talents and qualities. He would also never refrain from criticizing the shortcomings of the Nation.

He also further stated that Swami Vivekananda “more than being a guru, he was in search of truth”. PM Modi highlighted the fact that as Rabindranath Tagore got Nobel Prize for Literature and Swami Vivekananda was Known across the world for its Chicago speech, India gained a significant place in the world map. It is a matter of Pride that both of these individuals hail from Bengal.

Our PM also streamlined the fact that it’s because of the contributions of Swami Vivekananda, India is Known as Young Nation. He again reiterated on Swachchata, by saying that “Those who clean their houses, their Nation, should they also chant Vande Mataram. Those who dirty their houses, their Nation, should they also chant Vande Mataram”. Swami Vivekananda did not believe in Sermonising, His ideas & Idealism paved way for an Institutional framework via Ramakrishna Mission: PM Modi.

Our PM Modi also reiterated that Vivekananda was all for Innovation, for new discoveries. Would never refrain from deconstructing something to make way for new ideas.
