Remember that dialogue from the famous movie, ‘Forrest Gump’? “That day, for no particular reason, I decided to go for a run, kept right on going!” Well, our Hero of this article is WALKING WITH A MISSION! Makes a BIG difference! A man not less than 68 years of age has been doing what youth would hesitate endeavouring! Walking from last 1500 days! 20000 KM covered! A noble deed of ‘BHARAT PARIKRAMA’! All in the name of Upliftment of Rural villages! That’s RSS Pracharak and former Akhil Bhartiya Seva Pramukh, Sri. SITARAM KEDILAYA for you!
Having set about on the auspicious Historical day of ‘Quit India Movement’ , on 9th August, 2012, from the city of temples, known as ‘Bharat Bhooshirsh’, Kanyakumari, Sri Kedilayaji is walking non-stop for more than 4 years now! Covering about 10Â KM of distance by foot and resting in the village that falls in the vicinity has been the routine of Kedilayaji!
Whichever village Kedilayaji enters, he gets in touch with the youth and the prominent members of the village. He discusses important issues with them like care of sick and specially abled people, Conservation of Water, Cows, Ecology and rural indian values in daily life. He then leads a ‘Gram-Pradakshina’, that is, taking a round of the entire village. He also engages in the collective session prayer at the Village Temple. Thus, he establishes a close bond with the villagers!
Ideology of India has always been ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’, Universal brotherhood! However, this noble feeling has taken a back seat in the present days! Forget about cities, even villages which were one big encompassing family in earlier days has experienced drift of people! Starting from rural areas to national and international levels, lack of bondage has given birth to many present problems. Hence, Kedilayaji’s mission to bring back the feeling of unity and brotherhood in villages is the need of the time.
