Yesterday, Aam Aadmi Party had announced that it will not not contest in the upcoming Mumbai civic polls (BMC) scheduled to be held in early 2017. Today, in a surprising development, the party has announced that it will not contest the civic polls for Chandigarh Municipal Corporation also !
The Aam Aadmi Party was planning to contest for all the seats in both the Mumbai and Chandigarh municipal corporations. Of late, the Aam Aadmi Party was campaigning against the leaders of Shiv Sena, BJP and MNS in Mumbai giving an indication that it is going to contest the election on all the seats. However, the party announced yesterday that it is withdrawing from the Mumbai civic polls and will also not back any independent candidate. In a strikingly similar development, AAP also pulled out of the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation polls today.
The timing of the Aam Aadmi Party’s back-to-back withdrawal from contesting two civic polls comes right after PM Modi’s demonetization of high value currency notes, initiated by the PM in order to curb unaccounted wealth and black money, a major chunk of which is used in elections by various political parties. It is also a well known fact that from the moment PM Modi announced demonetization, two people who were completely restless and frustrated were Arvind Kejriwal and Mamata Bannerjee.
Arvind Kejriwal’s restlessness is evident from the fact that he made multiple videos, gave multiple press conferences, visited shops and unions where he tried to incite the traders to oppose against the move of demonetization. He also threatened the government that he and his party won’t give even 50 hours to government and desperately asked PM Modi to roll back the decision of demonetization, all in vain.
Why is Kejriwal so frustrated and running from pillar to pole ? His situation is similar to the situation of a fish out of water. It is a well known fact that a party which came to the scene on promise of clean election has been the most opaque when it comes to political funding. The party has fudged and faked its finance on the website, and after it was exposed by its own former party member Mayank Gandhi, they have not given the details about their expenses since 30 months. It is also alleged that his party receives huge donations from Khalistani separatists, NRIs of Dubai, Canada and Australia. All these donations were in cash and unaccounted.
Transparency of political donation was Aap's promise. No donation list since June. No expense statement since 2014. Attacking black money?

Why doesn't AAP reveal its expenditure from past 30 months? What creative reason for going back on their commitments? Fighting corruption?

It is very evident that the party has a lot to hide in its expenses, the entire amount of which has been conducted in a totally opaque manner with the help of unaccounted cash. A couple of months back, a senior AAP leader was caught with unaccounted wealth of Rs 130 crore after which multiple charges of corruption, fraud and financial irregularity were slapped on him. Of late, multiple AAP members have exposed that the tickets for assembly election in Punjab were sold at very high prices and only those candidates who could pay were given tickets. The unaccounted hundreds of crores of rupees in cash that the party earned in this method was supposed to be used by Kejriwal and his sycophants to advance their electoral interests in multiple civic polls and assembly polls in various states.
Now, with the ban on high denomination currency notes, all the hundreds of crores of unaccounted rupees that AAP allegedly earned by selling tickets and from illicit & unaccounted donations from various NGOs and NRIs have just become pieces of paper. With the central government blocking all the ways to convert the black money into white, Arvind Kejriwal and AAP are not only restless, but are devoid of any cash and that seems to be the reason of the party’s withdrawing from multiple polls. If Modi continues to wage the war on black money and corruption, AAP may soon be withdrawing from various assembly elections as well !
