She wanted to break the millennium old tradition and fought relentlessly to give women the right to enter into the inner sanctums of various temples. She fought to give women the right to enter into Shani Shingnapur temple. She even wanted women to enter the sanctum of Kerala’s Sabarimala Sree Ayyappa Swamy temple. But it should be noted that several Hindu women staged a massive protest against Tripti Desai and said that they were happy with the position given to them in Hinduism.
Tripti Desai, head of ‘Bhumatha Brigade’ once said that “the real stereotypes are in the mind”, is booked for robbery and caste atrocities. Yes, many thought that she with her NGO is relentlessly working hard to make earth a better place to live in. But all are surprised to see when she robbed a Dalit man and made derogatory remarks on his caste.
An FIR has been lodged against Tripti Desai, her husband and few other men by Vijay Annasaheb Makasare (33), a Dalit ‘social activist’ from Ahmednagar. He said that he was on his way to Mumbai in a car with Tripti Desai but all of a sudden a car stopped Makasare’s vehicle. When few men got out of the car, Tripti Desai snatched two cell phones from him and handed them over to her husband Prashant and said that the phone carries evidence against them. Later she asked Prashant and others to beat up Makasare.
Makasare was beaten up with an iron rod and wooden stick and was robbed with whatever he had. They robbed him of a golden chain worth Rs 15,000 and Rs 27,000 in cash and even two goggles. Later Desai was threatened to remain silent of the incident or else she will lodge false complaint using women activists.
Makasare also allegedly that Desai abused his caste. Makasare was associated with Bhumatha Brigade and was made the Vice-President of it. But when he asked about the registration number of the organisation, she said that it is not registered. But when he raised objections against the functioning of the organisation, she tried to silence him by threatening him of filing cases of harassment of women and extortion.
Till now no arrests have been made but have posed a serious question about the credibility of Tripti Desai and her organisation “Bhumatha Brigade”. In history we have witnessed how people used their organisation for their personal benefits.
Police filed a case against her under sections 341, 323, 394, 506 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code and sections of the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
