Army officer who tied Stone-Pelter to jeep, given Clean Chit

The Indian Army Major who tied a stone-pelter to an army jeep has been given a clean chit by the Court of Inquiry (CoI) in Jammu & Kashmir. Major Nitin Gogoi came up with the Israeli technique of tying the stone-pelter to the jeep’s bonnet to save his team from the stone-pelters.

Ex J&K CM Omar Abdullah first posted a video of the stone pelter being tied to an army vehicle. Omar Abdullah & Farooq Abdullah have never acknowledged the contribution of the soldiers in the valley. They have always spoken against the national sentiment. The clean chit given to Major Nitin Gogoi can be a slap on Omar Abdullah’s face.

The COI was convened on April 15, 2 days after the incident. The J&K Police filed an FIR against the Indian Army Major from 53 Rashtriya Rifles. Sources told India Today “Court Martial is out of question.”

Sources say that the five vehicle convoy led by the Major had soldiers, 12 poll officials, nine ITBP men and two policemen. The major had come up with the idea to escape the stone-pelting mobs during the by-election in Srinagar. The source also added that Major Gogoi was congratulated for his acumen and presence of mind that saved many lives.

Senior Indian Army officers are of the view that the incident was blown out of proportion.
