Big Blow to Congress!!!Supreme Court rejected Congress’ plea on NOTA

The drama began with Congress kidnapping its 44 MLAs from Gujarat to Karnataka, followed by raids on the Karnataka Minister who hosted 5 star facilities to these MLAs and now the Supreme Court has rejected Congress’ plea to cancel the NOTA button. So this drama has all chances to end with the defeat of Ahmed Patel in the Rajya Sabha election that is going to be held on August 8th.

After the raids, it was proved that Congress had spent crores of amounts on the MLAs so that they won’t quit the Congress party. After the top gun of Karnataka Congress was unable to hold the 44 MLAs, there were chances that these MLAs may get in touch with the BJP leaders.

So, when its illegal tactic didn’t work, the Congress’ legal department decided to cancel the NOTA facility available in the Rajya Sabha election on August 8th. The Congress had moved to the Supreme Court against the Election Commission’s decision to use NOTA.

The Election Commission had issued a notification recently and had said that the directions to use NOTA in Rajya Sabha elections were enforced in January 2014 after the Supreme Court in 2013 made it mandatory to have NOTA option in EVMs.

Supreme Court denies cancellation of NOTA

The Supreme Court today clearly said that the NOTA facility will be available in the Rajya Sabha election and this has given a severe jolt to the Congress high command. Is this the final nail in the coffin?

The plea was mentioned before a bench comprising justices Dipak Misra, Amitava Roy and A M Khanwilkar by senior counsel Kapil Sibal who sought an urgent hearing on the ground that there was no statutory provision for the” none of the above” (NOTA) option in the ballot paper for these elections.
