As soon as the court held Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, the controversial head of the religious sect Dera Sacha Sauda, guilty of raping two women at the cult’s headquarters in Haryana’s Sirsa town, the violence has broken out. Even after the so many precautionary measures, the violence couldn’t be averted the police.
Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh was taken into custody, and he will be taken to Rohtak jail in a chopper. The verdict came 15 years after the women, his former followers, accused the self-styled spiritual leader of sexually abusing them repeatedly. The court had more than 200 sittings spread over 10 years and numerous stay orders by higher courts. The punishment will be announced on 28th of August.
The protestors came from Punjab?
“Supporters of the dera came from Sangrur and Malwa areas of Punjab. Why did the Punjab government allow them to come to Haryana? This is a really unusual situation which we have not seen for 25 years. Such deployment of security was seen only in days of terrorism”, this was said by Vineet Joshi, Punjab BJP leader.
It was also reported that 200 injured were admitted to Panchkula general hospital, according to senior medical officer Vivek Bhadoo. 57 were also critically injured due to the violence. Mobile internet and data services have been suspended in Haryana, Punjab and Chandigarh for 72 hours.
Curfew in few towns of Punjab!!!
Curfew was imposed in four towns of Punjab on Friday after violence broke out following the conviction of Dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim in a rape case by a CBI court in Panchkula. Firozpur, Bhatinda, Mansa and Malout are the places were curfews are imposed.
Arun Jaitley has also met HM Rajnath to discuss the violence after the verdict. 20 Army columns have also set to enter Dera Headquarters in Sirsa
