As it was expected the “Mahagathbandhan” (which is nothing just a group of people (opposition) who used to fight like cats and dogs united to defeat the powerful force) will not withstand the test of time so has happened. The cracks emerging in the Mahagathbandhan that presented itself as a strong united force has started to come out in public.
In a big hit to this Mahagathbandhan, Akhilesh Yadav led Samajwadi Party has made it absolutely clear that the alliance can’t work and move further according to Congress whim. For the success of the united alliance it has to take care of the needs and desires of both the parties involved in it. It should be a give and take deal not only “keep on taking” deal
Samajwadi Party has informed the Congress party that “If they want seats in Uttar Pradesh then Congress party has to provide Samajwadi Party seats in the assembly poll-bound states of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh as party has as a strong foothold in some areas and wants to spread their wings further in the poll bound states.
The senior party leader Nanda said “If you (Congress) want unity, it has to be other states too where we want to have a share in the alliance. Unity can’t be a one-way traffic that will happen on in UP at the convenience of the Congress,” Some of the other senior party leaders mentioned that it would look too absurd if the parties will fight against each other in some states and afterwards will shake hands only for the state of Uttar Pradesh
It has also come to forefront that the senior leaders from both the parties Congress and the Samajwadi Party had met few days ago to chalk out the differences emerging between both sides but according to sources from the higher level of the party the meeting didn’t yield any results as the SP is wary about the caste equations and distribution of seats.
Another senior Congress leader added that party president Rahul Gandhi and senior party leaders such as Ghulam Nabi Azad and Salman Khurshid have been discussing the modalities of an SP-BSP-Congress pact in the country’s most populous state.
Few days ago BSP Supremo Mayawati too demanded a pan-India pact with the Congress as the two sides were negotiating alliances in the poll-bound states but when nothing worked out BSP Supremo made her way out and gave setback to Congress by forming an alliance with Ajit Jogi Janata Congress in Chhattisgarh and also announced candidates for 22 seats in Madhya Pradesh sidelining Congress.
It is really observable that this “Mahagathbandhan” is not going to survive any longer as the rift between the parties are widening with the major problem being the Congress party selfishness .
It seems the words of Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayeeji will soon turn into reality. He said “First of all it is really difficult to form such an alliance with people and parties having different opinions and if anyhow it takes birth then the survival of such alliance surrounded by contradictions is not possible and it will do no good to the country”
