In what is called as a big victory for the Modi government, the liquor baron, who took loan under the UPA regime and fled from the nation when the Modi government was all set to take tough actions against him, is said to return to India. At present Vijay Mallya is negotiating with the government of India to return home voluntarily and settle dues with the banks, said the sources.

He has apparently approached the enforcement directorate (ED) to come back to India but nothing has been guaranteed to him. Even if he does come back, it does not mean he will not be prosecuted. He would then fight his case in Indian courts. He will probably spend one or two days in jail and then get bail. If he voluntarily returns, we can issue emergency travel documents to him and the extradition case faces a natural death, added the source.

Why the credit goes to the Modi government?

Vijay Mallya has not taken this decision all of a sudden, but has been forced to do so by the Modi government. Yes, Vijay Mallya’s extradition trail in London will come to an end anytime soon. The case is related to a fraud and money laundering case in connection with Rs 10,000 crore loan borrowed by Mallya for his Kingfisher Airlines.

Sources have also said “He has apparently approached the enforcement directorate (ED) to come back to India but nothing has been guaranteed to him. Even if he does come back, it does not mean he will not be prosecuted. He would then fight his case in Indian courts. He will probably spend one or two days in jail and then get bail. If he voluntarily returns, we can issue emergency travel documents to him and the extradition case faces a natural death.”

Soon after Vijay Mallya lands in India he will be arrested and sent to jail until he gets bail. He will also have to face judiciary and even the criminal cases against him won’t be dropped. Even though the government of India will make its efforts to put Mallya in jail, it is upto the courts to decide whether he is guilty or not, even though the entire nation knows the financial atrocities of Mallya.

On 26th of June this year, Vijay Mallya had said “CBI and ED charge sheets specifically allege criminality with no intention to repay Banks. Since 2016 I have been making efforts to settle. Now I have placed everything before the Hon’Ble Karnataka HC so where is the malafide? Are Banks interested in repayment?”.

But the Minister of State for External Affairs M J Akbar slammed the “Poster Boy” of bank default saying “If Mallya wanted to pay to the banks, I think he had…many, many years in which he could have done so”.

The liquor tycoon had put Congress party in trouble after he had shared a tweet of Rahul Gandhi that said “2014, HE (Modi) said: I will bring back all the “BLACK” money in Swiss Banks & put 15 Lakhs in each Indian bank A/C. 2016, HE said: Demonetisation will cure India of “BLACK” money. 2018, HE says: 50% jump in Swiss Bank deposits by Indians, is “WHITE” money. No “BLACK” in Swiss Banks”.

This tweet had indicated that Vijay Mallya was dancing to the tune of the Congress party president.
