The BJP for the first time created history by winning maximum seats in the Shimla Municipal polls. Of the 34 seats, the BJP won 17 seats, and the Congress won 12 seats. Four independents and one CPI-M candidate got elected in the counting that was held here. Since 24 years, the Shimla municipal house was ruled by Congress which saw a end today.
The BJP requires 1 seat for majority and said they will get support of the independent candidate. “We are going to take control of the Municipal Corporation with the support of an independent,” a senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader told IANS. Rakesh Kumar who was a BJP rebel is most likely to extend support to the saffron party for getting a simple majority.
In 2012, the posts of Mayor and Deputy Mayor was selected by directly unlike this time. The BJP set all time record by winning highest number of seats.
