‘Boat Scam’ During Akhilesh’s Government Comes to Light

Akhilesh Yadav’s government saw rampant corruption. The common man suffered most as his taxes weren’t employed in improving basic facilities like road, electricity, drainage, etc., which Uttar Pradesh lacked miserably. Now, another scam under the former chief minister has come to light – the ‘Boat Scam’.

Creating a boating facility in Janeshwar Mishra Park was a dream project of Akhilesh Yadav. But apparently, even this project saw corruption. The boats that were bought were of very poor quality. The Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) has decided to take strict action in the matter.

It must be noted that even earlier corruption has been witnessed in pet projects of Akhilesh Yadav which are now being investigated under the Yogi Adityanath government.

According to LDA, 75% boats purchased from Litmus Marine Company are of poor quality. LDA has sent a notice to the company and may even blacklist the company. It must be noted that the inauguration of these boats was done by Akhilesh Yadav himself.

Last year LDA engineers purchased pedal boats, gondola boats, rescue boats and imported jackets from Mumbai based Litmus Marine Company. Problems in the boats were reported as soon as they were brought to Janeshwar Mishra Park. The boats started flooding as they were loaded in water. The newly-bought boats had to be repaired.

LDA Secretary Jay Shankar Dubey said, “A letter has been written to the government for the investigation of the case under the threat of scam in supply of boat.”

It is not surprising that scams under the SP government are coming t0 light. Considering how Uttar Pradesh reeled under immense problems such as a disintegrating law and order situation, severe water scarcity for farmers especially in Bundelkhand, a completely broken-down road and transport mechanism, etc., it is now visible where the money actually went.

No matter how the Yogi Adityanath performs, one thing is for certain – there won’t be such corruption under him. He isn’t a person who became the chief minister because of his father’s name; instead he is rooted to the ground and has worked his way up honestly. One can say that Uttar Pradesh is finally out of the menace of corruption at the government-level under the new administration.
