It has been 10 years since the intelligence agencies were looking for a man called Abdul Subhan Qureshi alias Touqeer. The same man who was involved in the 2008 Ahmedabad blasts. The Ahmedabad witnessed one of the worst terror attacks on 26 July 2008, where 21 bomb blasts took place in a single day. The bombs were placed in different locations in Ahmedabad and in a span of 70 minutes, the city witnessed worst attack.
The incident killed 56 people and injured more than 200 people which shook the entire country. This happened just months before 26/11 attack in Mumbai. The ATS and the police had arrested a man called Abu Basher who was said to be the key accused in the Ahmedabad blasts. It is said that he stayed with Abdul Subhan Qureshi in Delhi and planned the entire attack. Abdul Subhan Qureshi is the co-founder of Indian Mujahideen and was a major commander of SIMI terror organisation. He was involved in training youngsters in SIMI organisation.
The Interpol had issued red corner notice against Subhan Qureshi and was wanted by Gujarat, Maharashtra and Delhi police in various other terror cases. It is also said that he was the main person who trained terrorists in bomb-making and masterminding terror attacks in India. He was in fact called the Osama bin Laden of India and wanted to target many metro cities in India. Just a few months back, the Delhi police has arrested few terrorists in Delhi who had planned to attack the city on Republic Day. Four years back, the National Investigating Agency had announced a reward of Rs four lakh on the information leading to Qureshi’s arrest. But now, the police and the special cell have been able to capture the notorious terrorist Qureshi.
According to internal sources, Abdul Qureshi had plans to abduct and kill many RSS leaders from Delhi and Nagpur and got huge funding from Pakistan for his activities. He wanted to revive Indian Mujahideen in India and wanted to hire youngsters for various terror attacks. He travelled to Karachi frequently to establish contacts with other terror outfits and wanted to build huge network of IM in India. Capturing him is definitely a massive blow to IM and all its activities. Kudos to the Delhi police.
