In a surprise move, The Delhi Lieutenant Governor Mr. Najeeb Jung submitted his resignation to the Government of India on Thursday. All of the sudden without quoting any reason Najeeb Jung has quit as the Lieutenant Governor. He was appointed as the 20th Lieutenant Governor of the National Capital Territory of Delhi in July 2013 by the then Congress government. His resignation has come as a big surprise as he still had 18 months of tenure.
In his resignation he has stated he wants to go back to academics, which is his first love and thanked the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Chief Minister of Delhi for all the support. He also thanked the people of Delhi for their support during one year President’s rule.
It can be well remembered that Najeeb Jung and Kejriwal were at loggerheads on many issues regarding the Delhi administration and appointment issues which had turned into an unsolvable problem. There were numerous clashes between the two which had only resulted in the failure of administration in Delhi. Kejriwal had repeatedly accused Lieutenant Governor of favouring the central government and constantly looked for excuses from work. Mr. Najeeb Jung had lately written to Kejriwal and accused him of escaping from his real duties and responsibilities as the Chief Minister.
Kejriwal has always been in fighting mode with all institution in Delhi, complaining of being obstruction to his work. With Najeeb Jung quitting the job, we will have to wait and see whom will the centre pick as the next Lieutenant Governor of Delhi. Since most of the Delhi’s administration work requires the approval of Lt.Governor, it is important that the central quickly appoints the next governor.
