Just couple days after Republic TV exposed Lalu Yadav’s conversation with mafia don Shabuddin, today the Supreme Court has rejected Lalu Prasad Yadav’s appeal to drop all charges against him.
Lalu Prasad was convicted in the 900 crore fodder scam and was sentenced to 5 year jail term in the year 2013. But the SC had granted him bail on the grounds of parity the same year. Lalu Prasad had appealed to the Jharkhand High Court to drop all charges against him, to which the court had reacted favorably. But the CBI opposed the appeal in the Supreme Court which today set aside the Jharkhand High court order and ordered separate trials against Lalu Yadav in fodder scam.
The Supreme Court also said the Jharkhand High Court should have been consistent in its findings and should not have given different views for different sets of accused in a case. The apex court has set a deadline of 9 months for the trial and instructed the CBI to finish the case in the prescribed time.
This order is a massive blow to Lalu Prasad which will again put a break to his dominance in the political field. It was unfortunate that a convicted man on corruption charge was given bail just on the grounds of parity. This verdict will also put pressure on Nitish Kumar who has allied with Lalu Prasad in Bihar. Its a matter of shame for Congress, Nitish and Arvind Kejriwal who have been supporting Lalu Prasad Yadav.
