In what can be claimed as one of the biggest successes, 23 (twenty-three) dreaded Maoist terrorists were gunned down in a joint operation conducted by special Greyhound units of Andhra Pradesh Police and Odisha Police in Malkangiri forest area of Andhra-Odisha border. Among the 23 terrorists killed, casualties include 3 top Maoist leaders and 8 women.
As per ADG (intelligence) of Odisha Shri Arun Sarangi, the blue print for the operation was finalised 2 days back based on an intelligence report received by the police which had details about the movement of Maoists in the Malkangiri forest area. In an operation which lasted for one hour in the early hours of Monday, 23 Maoists were killed and a huge cache of arms was recovered, including 4 AK-47 rifles and 3 SLR rifles.
The terrorists killed by the security forces include top Maoist leaders Uday, Sudhir, Anil and Bakuri Venkata Ramana. These were the senior Maoist leaders who were dreaded terrorists and much wanted by various state police as they were masterminds in various attacks against police and administration. In the daring and highly successful operation by Odisha and AP police, two constables of the elite anti-Maoist Greyhounds were also injured. While one of them is out of danger, the other one attained martyrdom after he succumbed to his injuries. This is a major breakthrough in the fight against internal maoist terrorism. Congratulations to Odisha and AP police !
