Indian forces have decided to celebrate this Independence Day like never before. The best gift they can gift to the freedom fighters, who gave us Independence, is by killing the terrorists who are trying to separate Kashmir from India.
Yesterday, a fierce gun battle had taken place between the terrorists and the security forces. The gun battle had take place at Awneera village in south Kashmir’s Shopian district and it was headed by Army, CRPF and J&K Police.
Two soldiers were martyred in this battle and the gift they gave to the countrymen in return is just priceless. Yes, the forces were successful in eliminating three terrorists including Yasin Yatoo alias Mehmood Ghaznavi, a top Hizbul commander in the Valley. The two other terrorists were Umar Majeed and Sheikh Irfan-ul-Haq.
IG (Kashmir Zone) Muneer Khan said that this is a very big success. This indicates that the terrorists have suffered a major setback.
The operation lasted for over 15 hours and this operation was really a challenging one as the area was surrounded by orchards and nullahs.
Initially the forces received inputs that nine terrorists including Yasin Yatoo had assembled in the village for a meeting. When the security forces laid a cordon and search operation, the terrorists fired at first. Later the forces retaliated to the terrorists. The operation was even more challenging when the stone pelters arrived at the spot to rescue the terrorists.
Yatoo had pretended his death!!!
Yatoo was an “old hand” and a “thinking militant with a lot of experience and training”. It was believed that he had died six months ago in an operation. Even the funeral prayers were offered but later it was found that it was pre-planned just to escape from the radar of the security forces. He had joined militancy in the year 1996 and was involved in various terror activities since then.
“He was the anchor of the Hizbul Mujahideen’s activities and the only top commander preventing cadre from coming under the influence of Zakir Musa. For us, he was the most important catch,” said a senior police officer.
