Chilli PAVA Grenades for CRPF, Real Grenades for Terrorists!

Now our CRPF Jawans will have to fight terrorists and law breakers with Chilli Filled PAVA Grenades against REAL Grenades and Stones.

The expert committee which was formed by the Home Ministry to find a replacement for pellet guns following criticism has suggested to use Chilli filled Pelargonic Acid Vanillyl Amide (PAVA) grenades in place of pellet guns.

The Kashmir valley was under curfew for almost 40 days after violence erupted following the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist, Burhan Wani. According to reports the protest was organized by terrorists across the border which received support from many separatists groups in Kashmir and also powerful politicians. The primary investigations by Intelligence Bureau have also revealed huge money was dumped into valley to instigate violence.

The CRPF has opposed the suggestion of the committee saying it would be difficult to control the violent mob which uses grenades and stones. The CRPF has also stated that the mob tends to provoke the security people during which the pellet guns would have been least lethal weapon. Sudden replacement of pellet guns would only prove to be more dangerous since the mobs do not hesitate to risk their life to attack Jawans and police, which will only force the security personal to use real GUNS.

The CRPF has expressed displeasure saying any new methods will have to be first put in trial before they are brought into use. Replacing pellet guns when the situation is so tense will be a knee jerk reaction and a hasty decision.

What is Chilli PAVA Grenade??

Chilli filled Pelargonic Acid Vanillyl Amide (PAVA) grenades contains Pelargonic Acid Vanillyl Amide also called Nonivamide, an organic compound present in chilli peppers which paralyses humans temporarily when shot. It also causes irritation in the eyes similar to tear gas, but is considered safer than tear gas shells.

The committee has suggested the BSF unit in Gwalior to immediately manufacture 50,000 PAVA grenades immediately.

The committee recommendation seems to be a dangerous move as the mob is being supplied with real grenades to target security personals while our CRPF jawans will have to fight with Chilli PAVA grenades. This may increase the casualties of our security personal alsol. While our security personals are already being killed in large numbers, this move will make our jawans more vulnerable to the terror attacks.
