Known for her fierce oratory kills, Sushma Swaraj was the 21st century’s Iron Woman. She had a unique knack of getting impossible tasks done instantly. During her period as External Affairs Minister, she came to the rescue of people when they just made a tweet to her.
This way, she reminded the people that the government is for the people. Now let me tell you an incident that just happened couple of hours before her death. 3 years ago, terrorist nation Pakistan had kidnapped former Indian naval officer Kulbhushan Jadhav
It later announced death sentence to him claiming he was an Indian spy, meanwhile kept torturing him in the prison. India protested this and took the matter to the International Court of Justice (ICJ). Harish Salve, one of India’s top most lawyers argued at ICJ to save Kulbhushan Jadhav.
Salve announced that he would charge just Rs 1 to save the former Indian naval officer. Due to his strong arguments, Pakistan lost at ICJ & Kulbhushan Jadhav’s death sentence was scrapped. Sushma Swaraj Ji as an external minister, played a key role in this
After the news of death of Sushma Swaraj broke out, lawyer Harish Salve revealed that couple of hours back he had spoken to her for an hour. In the call, Sushma Swaraj had said “Come tomorrow for Re 1 fee”
Yes, she asked Salve to collect his fee of Rs 1 that he had charged for the case. Recalling their conversation, Harish Salve said “I spoke to her at 8:50 pm. It was a very emotional conversation”.
He added “She said I have to come and meet me. I have to give you your one rupee for the case which you won. I said of course I have to come collect that precious fee. She said come tomorrow at 6 o’clock”.
Unfortunately, that tomorrow never came in the life of Sushma Swaraj
Her last tweet was “Narendra Modi Ji – Thank you Prime Minister. Thank you very much. I was waiting to see this day in my lifetime”.
She thanked PM Modi for scrapping Article 370 and her last tweet was indeed heart wrenching to read after he death.
