A shameful incident has taken place in Karnataka where the former Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah has assaulted a women in his son’s constituency. This heinous act took place when a woman named Jamalar was complaining that Siddaramaiah’s son Dr Yathindra was not at all available for the people to convey their grievances.
When the woman stood up and pointed at Siddaramaiah’s son’s non availability, the former CM Siddaramaiah got so violent that he snatched away the mic from the woman’s hand, hit her hand with it and pushed her down. This incident took place in Mysuru.

The women who was targeted by Siddaramaiah said “I keep telling the Panchayat and taluk members to inform me when Varuna MLA (Siddaramaiah’s son Yathindra) comes here. But they never do so. I wanted to inform Siddaramaiah of the same which is when I banged my hand on the table”.
Instead of slamming Siddaramaiah, Dinesh Gundu Rao, the Congress Karnataka chief backed him and said “She was talking in an agitated manner, as it is a local thing, sometimes when people start asking questions in a rush way, you take away the mike, when he tried to take away the mike her duppatta was pulled away it is not. To impute any such intention is horrifying. The intention was to only take the mike away from her”.
Chairperson of National Commission for Women (NCW) Rekha Sharma said that “NCW has taken Suo Motu cognisance. Will write to Karnataka Police to take appropriate action”. Later on the NCW made an official statement saying “NCW India has taken cognisance of the incident. The Commission will write to Karnataka Police to thoroughly investigate the matter and take appropriate action, as per law”.
Union Minister Prakash Javadekar slammed Siddaramaiah’s behaviour and said “Rahul Gandhi should tell what he’ll do with him. This is a crime, the way he abused her. That’s how they see women, they haven’t changed since the tandoor case. They only respect women from one family”.
Is this Congress chief Rahul Gandhi’s model of women empowerment?
