Sensing a pathetic defeat in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the Congress party and its alliance staged a drama saying EVMs are either hacked or swapped by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Even after the Supreme Court said “this is nonsense. Let the country elect its government” to the people who filed a petition to match 100% VVPAT with EVMs, the opposition didn’t stop insulting the EVMs and the Election Commission.
What was hilarious was that few of the mainstream journalists who had their leaning towards a certain political party, hooked on to fake news that claimed EVMs were hacked or swapped. Now the Uttar Pradesh police has taken strict actions against such miscreants and have currently arrested a man for spreading fake news about EVM tampering.
In Uttar Pradesh, tension was brewing after several fake news triggered the political parties. When the police started searching the culprit who spread fake news about EVM tampering, Azamgarh police arrested a man named Umesh Gautam and the investigation revealed that he was affiliated with Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP).
After nabbing the culprit, Triveni Singh, police superintendent of Azamgarh said “The accused was involved in sharing fake information about EVM manhandling. We verified his post and found it to be fake, the content he posted could have caused unrest between the political parties and also questioned electoral process”.
She added “We are tracking all the misinformation being circulated on the net which can be misused to disturb the peace. A dedicated team is monitoring EVM related content which is being verified by the authorities”.
What was shocking was that Congress leader Udit Raj insulted the Supreme Court of Indian alleging that it was involved in rigging. He stated “Why doesn’t the Supreme Court want all VVPAT slips to be counted? Is it also involved in rigging? When administrative work has slowed down due to elections since last three months, what difference will two-three days make?”.
A case should be filed even against him.
