Fact Check: Did Anantkumar Hegde Really Criticize ‘Mahatma Gandhi’ And His Non Cooperation Movement!?

As we all know Karnataka BJP MP from Uttara Kannada, Anantkumar Hegde has hit the headlines several times for his bold statements and remarks against the opposition.
Now, he is in the news once again for his controversial remarks against Ahimsa, Satyagraha and the Non Cooperation movement.

Netizens and the leaders of opposition party have slammed Anant Kumar Hegde for his remarks.
A reputated news portal carried a report with the title ‘BJP’s Anantkumar Hegde calls Mahatma Gandhi’s freedom struggle a ‘drama’.Leaders of the opposition party made derogatory remarks against Anant Kumar Hegde and BJP on twitter.

Sources claim that Lok Sabha was adjourned till 12 pm today after uproar by the Opposition over BJP MP Anant Kumar Hegde’s statement ‘against’ Mahatma Gandhi. Congress Chief Whip in LS Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said “Aaj ye Mahatma Gandhi ko gaali dete hain. Ye ravan ke aulad hain. Ram ke pujari ka ye apmaan kar rahe hain”

But, Did he actually call Mahatma Gandhi’s freedom struggle a ‘drama’?
Well, The answer will be No.
Here is what happened,
On Feb 1st, Anantkumar Hegde was speaking at a book launch event. The entire video of his 47 minute long speech at the event has been uploaded on Facebook. In the speech made by him in Kannada, he nowhere mentions nehru or Gandhi.

He was talking about how freedom fighters like Veer Savarkar and Bhagat Singh faced. He also said that a few became “mahapurusharu” by having close relations with the British. He said that many who claim to have got freedom for the country did not suffer like Veer Savarkar and Bhagat Singh and false history has been taught to us.

Infact, Ananthkumar Hegde himself has clarified that he did not refer to any political party or Mahatma Gandhi or anybody else and that he was just trying to categorize freedom struggle.

Well, it looks these biased media houses who have no knowledge of kannada are targeting him for the sake of it.
Even the opposition leaders passed derogatory remarks without verifying the fact. This is not the first time that the media and opposition have targeted Anant Kumar Hegde, earlier several of his statements were misinterpreted by the opposition for their gains.

Anyway, it is hightime that these biased media houses and the leaders of the opposition party check their facts before they make any allegations against anybody! This repetative irresponsible behaviour of the opposition shows that they are deliberately sending false and fake news to the public.
