Times Group Tabloid Mumbai Mirror chose the worst title possible for an interview with PVV Lakshmi, the wife of Coach Pullela Gopichand, indulging in sensationalism for the umpteenth time.
The headline of the exclusive interview reads:
PV SINDHU HAS WHAT I DIDN”™T HAVE ““ MY HUSBAND
Lakshmi was a former national Badminton player who represented India in the 1996 Atlanta Olympics and was India No 1 for close to eight years. Now she helps her husband run the academy in Hyderabad.
This is what she actually said:
“Sindhu has what I didn’t have back then – my husband as coach,” she said.
She further went on saying, “Sindhu is special because she has Gopi for support. He is her biggest asset. I am not saying because he is my husband but because of the commitment the coach has shown for her. I have no regrets in my career but If I had had a coach as committed as Gopi is, I would have done very well.”
The misleading headline made Lakshmi appear like a jealous, insecure wife, when she was actually a proud one.
The Backlash on Twitter followed with Twitterati teaching the tabloid some journalism ethics.
