Daily Mujadala is the largest circulated Urdu newspaper in PoK. Yet, it was forcefully closed down by the Pakistani government. The reason being that the daily revealed the truth of PoK to the world and exposed the truth of Pakistan’s illegal occupation of the region by conducting a survey.
The newspaper recently conducted a poll asking people in PoK if they wanted to continue living under the forced occupation of Pakistan. The verdict was overwhelming as over 73% of the respondents said that they want independence from the illegal occupation of Pakistan. This unnerved the radical forces in Pakistan along with the Pakistan Army and government to such an extent that they immediately shut down the daily.
Aditya Raj Kaul who’s with Republic TV spoke to Haris Qadeer, the Chief Editor of Daily Mujadala. He said that the question posed to the people of PoK was about the position of Kashmir in 1948 and if people wanted it restored. In response to the question 73% of people said that they considered themselves to be Kashmiris and wanted independence from Pakistan.
The survey wasn’t a small one. This opinion was gathered by the daily through 10,000 survey forms over a period of 5 years. The respondents were simply asked to rate the PoK administration and whether they wanted independence from Pakistan.
Qadeer said that the Pakistani administration took immediate action against him. He was sent notices, but he didn’t honour them. The DM and Kashmir council then sent notices to take action against him which eventually led to his offices being sealed.
Since the last few years there have been great protests against the Pakistani establishment by locals in PoK. Some protests even called for dismantling the terror camps in the region.
The Narendra Modi government has made it amply and explicitly clear that PoK is a part of India. Last year, the government announced enhanced compensation for civilian victims of terror and said that people living in PoK can also claim this compensation as they are also ‘our people’. Recently Sushma Swaraj allowed a medical visa for a PoK resident saying that the resident doesn’t need a letter from the Pakistani government like those living in Pakistan do because PoK is also a part of India.
