In a shameful incident, 26/11 martyr Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan’s “Name Board” vandalised in Bengaluru

In a very shameful incident, a granite slab erected as a plaque to honour 26/11 martyr Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan in Bengaluru’s Yelahanka New Town area was vandalised by unidentified miscreants. This has led to a massive outrage over the act of vandalism, with many demanding immediate restoration of the plaque and immediate arrest of the culprits. Pictures of the broken plaque did the rounds on social media, triggering people’s ire over the incident.

It’s just a matter of Couple of days back; a statue of Former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru was removed in Uttar Pradesh considering the Beautification drive in the city and the Congress men had created havoc over it, turning and twisting the matter. Media also had promoted the outrage by Congress but here there seems to be none. Do we end up concluding that media values politicians more than martyrs?

It also shows a sick mentality of the people who can take such step to dishonor the martyr who sacrificed his life during the 26/11 Mumbai Attack saving many.

Learning about the incident, BJP Rajya Sabha MP Rajeev Chandrasekhar expressed his concern and has called the incident ‘a shameful treatment of sacrifice’. Talking further he also asked CM HD Kumaraswamy and G Parameshwara to restore the plaque before the 26th of November.

Major Unnikrishnan made the ultimate sacrifice while battling terrorists in the 26/11 attacks at the Taj Mahal hotel in Mumbai. He played an important role in rescuing 14 hostages from the hotel. He was awarded the Ashok Chakra, which is the highest peacetime gallantry award in India, posthumously, for his exemplary leadership and sacrifice during the 2008 attacks.

As per reported by The News Minute, an official at the Yelahanka New Town Police Station said, “Our officers went to the spot last night. We observed the damage done to the structure but no case has been taken up yet because we have not received a complaint. We are looking into it and the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has been notified to ensure that the memorial is put right.”
