India Vikas Ki Aur : The Wheels of progress launches Free Wi-Fi in 115 Railway Stations.

In the midst of all these political developments, all developmental agendas and policies of government loses its sight to make headlines in the Mainstream, as nowadays we find there is a race for proving majority through constitutional means. So utilising this opportunity I thought of penning down my thoughts towards Developmental Policies undertaken by the Government.

RailTelcorporation was entrusted to roll out Wi-Fi across Indian railway stations. It’s amazing to read such facility has been provided to 50 lakhs passengers at 115 stations across the country and the railways propose to provide such facility in running trains too later was informed in Rajya Sabha.

Mr. Suresh Prabhu, Railway Minister said the execution of Wi-Fi facility at 400 railway stations has been entrusted to RailTel corporation, a subsidiary of the Railways, without any fund allocation by the Government. “The number of Passengers using the Wi-Fi services at all stations was approximately 50 Lakh in the month of February at 115 stations so far provided with Wi-Fi service”, he said. A total of 400 Railway stations will be covered in the first batch and the criterion adopted to install the service depended upon the volume at stations. Mr. Prabhu also reiterated that Wi-Fi facility, being a public service, was not just provided to railway passengers but also to all visiting the stations, including a large number of students.

“Of course, there is also a proposal to provide it in running trains”,he said responding to a query from a member, adding that the facility is available in some train already. “We will try to give it in most trains”, he said.

Mr. Prabhu also claimed that the use of Wi-Fi at Stations was being regulated by guidelines issued by Department of Telecommunication and no case of violation of these guidelines has been reported. “All DoT guidelines are followed so that no website banned by DoT can be opened,” he said. The Railway Minister also went up to an extent of claiming that the facility as provided by Google was according to them “the biggest and fastest public Wi-Fi in the world”. There was another question posed to him, whether the stations in the east would also cover in this project, to which he replied “Because the Sun rises in the East”.

During the question hour, he was replying on provision of solar powered panels on rooftops of trains, he said the railways have provided solar panels on rooftops of 19 narrow gauge in northern railway and 4 broad gaugenon- air conditioned coaches in service for use of electrical 4 broad gauge non-air conditioned coaches in service for use of electrical energy generated in train lighting system on a trial basis, which would save a total of Rs. 41,000 crore over a period of 10 years.

“Indian railways have embarked upon a mission to save Rs. 41,000 crore over a period of 10 years through efficient energy management and power procurement”, he said.

In the month of December2016, Google RailTel Wi-Fi rolled out at Udhagamandalam, its 100thrailway station in India. This was a land mark achievement in Indian railways. Google had successfully launched high-speed internet to 100 of the busiest railway stations across India. According to Google, after the roll out at the 100th railway station in India, over 10 Million Indians have an access to fast internet. Google also added over 5 million monthlyusers, the Google RailTel Wi-Fi has over 15,000 first time users connecting to the network every day. This milestone brought Google closer to its aim of launching high speed Wi-Fi across 400 stations in India.Google is in partnership with RailTel since January 2016.

I am highlighting all these achievements of Ministry of Railways collaborating with Google way back in 2016 so that we can all gauge ourselves what amount of work has been carried out, but the Mainstream Media instead of highlighting the developmental policies initiated by the government towards its citizens rather highlighted on Rohith Vemula’s suicide, Questioned on Surgical Strikes, whether it was the original surgical strike or dramatized one. First, of all I fail to understand how people can stoop down to this low for compromising on such sensitive issues questioning the government’s intent, just because it’s executive head is PM Modi. After this, demonetization was blown out of proportion which was a move to nail the corrupt and dishonest in the system.

I was not aware of this until recently I came across that Patna Railway station tops the Wi-Fi chart in terms of internet search using the free Wi-Fi service, through the maximum searches were for Porn sites a railway official said. “More than any other railway station in the country, where free Wi-Fi servicewas launched, the Patna railway station is on the top in the country for using internet search. After Patna, Jaipur Railway station is second to use the internet search, followed by Bengaluru and New Delhi. By the end of 2016, free Wi-Fi facility was launched at 100 major railway stations. In the next three years, there will be around 400 stations to be covered for Wi-Fi. Once in place, it will be the largest public Wi-Fi system in the world”, Mr.Suresh Prabhu said this service was commissioned by RailTel, in association with Google, for providing high-speed internet to rail commuters at these places. Maharashtra to invest over Rs.5,000 crore for internet connectivity in 29,000 villages by 2018.

As I conclude my thoughts, I feel that during election campaign of all five states, especially the largest state of UP, where BJP won with historical mandate of 325 seats/403 seats a magical and a miraculous figure post independent era, only illustrates most important fact that Government is Pro-Developmental agendas and Pro-Poor, good governance especially team India which is very efficient. It also works tirelessly along with our PM Modi to fulfil the set targets only for welfare of the nation. What I would like to pledge with team India is my “Positivity Pledge”, for all their Pro-Developmental Policies.

I would like to quote one of the sutras from Chanakya’s Nitisaastra—

Sakshmaat Sarveshaam Karyasidhirbhavthi

{With these Measures} One achieves success in whatever he does. [The one who is forgiving by nature, firm in his faith and committed to his penance eventually gets success in his every endeavour].
