Adi Shankaracharya bhagavadpada established the Govardhana Peetha at Jagannath Puri on the Kartika Shukla Panchami of Yudhishtira Saka.

The Puri Peeth is related to Rig Veda. Its main preaching theme is ‘Pragyanam brahma’. There’s an unbroken chain of Shankaracharyas from 2489 years. One hundred and forty four Shankaracharyas have already graced the Peeth already. The Peetha of the East at Puri is now graced by Jagadguru Shankaracharya Nischalananda Saraswati-ji as its 145th Sankaracharya. He was appointed as  head of this peetha by the Shankaracharya Swami Niranjanadeva Tirtha Maharaj on 9th February 1992 (Vikram Samvat 2048).

The current Shankaracharya of Puri Peeth, Swami Sri Nischalananda Saraswati-ji Maharaj was born on 30th June 1943 in a village called Haripur Bakshi Tol in the Madhubani district of Bihar. His father was Pandit Sri Lalvamshi Jha and his mother was Smt Gita Devi. His father was a great scholar of Sanskrit in the Mithila tradition and was a court vidwan of the then king of Mithila (Darbhanga Kingdom). The Swami’s previous name was Nilambar.

In his childhood Nilambar was very studious and intelligent as well. His early education took place in his village Kaluahi and Loha and in Delhi later. At age 17, he left his home and started in pursuit of his life journey.

In one of the seminars involving all the branches of Vedas, Dharma Samrat Karpatri-ji Maharaj and the then Shankaracharya of Jyotish Peeth Swami Sri Krishnabodhashram-ji Maharaj were present. Nilambar accepted Karpatri-ji Maharaj as his spiritual master. He was given the name Dhruva chaitanya.

He studied the Vedas and various branches related to Vedas very seriously at various places like Kashi, Vrindavan, Naimisharanya, Badrikashram, Rishikesh, Haridwar, Puri, Sringeri etc. Dhruvachaitanya fought hard against atrocities on cows which are considered a symbol of faith among Hindus while participating actively in Dharma Samrat Karpatriji Maharaj’s agitation for cow protection. He was kept in the Tihar jail from 9th November 1966 for 52 days for advocating cow protection.

He accepted the sanyasa from Swami Sri Karpatriji Maharaj on Vaisakha Krishna Ekadashi, 18th April 1974 in Haridwar.

Swami Sri Karpatriji Maharaj initiated him into the sanyasa order under the new name Nischalananda Saraswati. From 1976 to 1981, he studied the works of Prasthanatrayi, Panchadashi, Vedanta Paribhasha, Nyaya Mimamsa, Tantra and Advaita Siddhi from his Gurudev. Impressed by Swami Sri Nischalananda Saraswati-ji’s talents, brilliance, dedication towards sanatana dharma and utmost faith in his gurus, Shankaracharya Swami Sri Niranjanadev Tirtha ji Maharaj anointed him the 145th Shankaracharya of the Govardhana Peetha at Puri.

When many left liberal intellectuals are making fun of Indian heritage and science, it seems that the best minds of Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), are utilizing our vast ancient knowledge.

Today Chandrayaan-2 has completed a very tricky maneuver and has entered into moon’s orbit.

before the Chandrayaan-2 launch, the scientists at ISRO consulted Swami Nischalananda Saraswati. Swami Nischalananda Saraswati is famous for his work in Vedic Mathematics and is considered an authority on the ancient subject.

Acc to the spokesperson of the Govardhana Matt, Manoj Ratha Guru Nischalananda swamiji had met the ISRO scientists to implement theorems and calculations enumerated in Vedic treatises like Puranas & Bhagwad Gita to achieve success in the mission as India was a pioneer in mathematics, astronomy, missile technology thousands of years ago.

The seer was invited by ISRO to the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota where he presented his knowledge of Vedic Mathematics which contributed to the launch of the Chandrayaan-2.

The swamiji has written 11 book on Vedic Mathematics to propagate the subject and to bring this almost forgotten subject to the public. His works are being discussed by experts all over the world and many approach Nischalananda Saraswati for advice and suggestions in mathematical research.

Hindu dharma says ‘dharmorakshathi rakshitah’ one who works to protect dharma, dharma will protect him. Our Gurus, swamijis are working towards to the upliftment of the society. They are taking the teachings of dharma to common people through service.

In India a situation has come up where the intellectuals hate everything related to hindu. They criticize our culture, our values our Gurus. But like in the past our ancient knowledge leaving its mark through new discoveries, this time it has taken the scientists to the orbit of moon.
