It is unheard of in India that a new government distributes any item which has the photo, symbol or names of the previous Chief Minister/party on them, that too when they belong to a completely different party.
However, Yogi Adityanath has allowed the distribution of more than 35,000 schoolbags having photo of Akhilesh Yadav and symbol of Samajwadi Party.
Since Akhilesh’s photo and the symbol of Samajwadi Party had already been printed on the bags before the election, Yogi Adityanath allowed the distribution of the bags for two very important reasons – to save public funds which were already spent in the bags, and to ensure the students did not face any delay in receiving school bags at the start of the new session.
Not letting the bags to be distributed to the school children for the sake of political ego would have resulted in wastage of public funds which were already used for manufacturing and procuring the bags, and would have also delayed the benefits passed on to the students who were to receive the bags. The Uttar Pradesh state basic education department has directed officials of 23 districts to resume the distribution of more than 100,000 schoolbags. In Bareilly district alone, more than 35,000 bags are in the government store room.
The state education had received these bags in January this year, but since the model code of conduct was into effect due to assembly elections in february and March, the bags having photos of Akhilesh Yadav could not be distributed. After the BJP won a thumping majority and Yogi Adityanath became the chief minister, the officials were not distributing the bags as they were afraid that the current BJP leadership in the state will not allow the bags having photographs of Akhilesh to be distributed. However, the directions from the “top” were to distribute all the bags without any delay so that public funds aren’t wasted and benefits to students are not delayed.
Yogi Adityanath considered the state resources and future of the children of Uttar Pradesh more important than politics. It needs a selfless ‘Yogi’ who is beyond ego and personal benefits to think for the larger welfare of his subjects. Congratulations to Yogi Adityanath for setting a new trend, which must be followed by all political parties.
