Looming threat: Murderer of DSP Ayub Pandith, Sajjad Gilkar body wrapped in ISIS flag

ISIS flags have been shown in the Kashmir Valley several times after Friday prayers, but for the first time, the corpse of a terrorist was draped in the ISIS flag. In the previous instances, the body was covered with the Pakistani flag. This incident of wrapping a terrorist’s body in ISIS flag would raise an alarm in the security establishment.

In an encounter at Budgam district of Srinagar on July 12, Sajjad Gilkar, a resident of Down Town, Srinagar was killed along with two other Hizbul terrorists. As hundreds of Gilkar’s sympathisers joined the funeral, his body was wrapped in the ISIS flag. With this incident, Gilkar has become the first militant in the Valley in the last 28 years to be wrapped in the ISIS flag. According to a local, people gathered at his funeral waved ISIS flags with pictures of slain Hizbul commander Burhan Wani and Kashmiri Mujahideen commander Zakir Musa. They also raised anti-India slogans during the funeral.

While police say that Gilkar was the man behind the lynching of DSP Mohammad Ayub Pandith, the SIT is yet to submit its report. Ayub Pandith was brutally killed by a mob outside the Jamia Masjid in Srinagar on June 22.

According to the Jammu and Kashmir police, Gilkar’s went underground after June 22 and joined Hizbul. He was also involved in the grenade attack on CRPF at Nowhatta on April 2, 2017, CRPF camp Safa Kadal on June 11, 2017 and on a police party at Khanyar on April 30, 2017.

Here are some tweets which shows the anger of the general public against the flag bearers of the Kashmiriyat regarding wrapping of Gilkar’s body in ISIS flag:

While terror outfit ISIS is trying to gain foothold in India, such incidents are worrying and a looming threat to the nation. There are already some cases where it has been found that ISIS is trying to recruit Indian youth by misguiding them.
