In a major development, the US has declare the most wanted terrorist of India and Hizbul Mujahideen chief Syed Salahuddin as ‘Specially Designated Global Terrorist.
The decision came just hours before the historic meet of PM Narendra Modi and US President Donald trump. The US government declared Syed Salahuddin a global terrorist under US provisions that impose sanctions on foreigners “who have committed, or pose a significant risk of committing, acts of terrorism that threaten the security of US nationals or the national security, foreign policy, or economy of the United States.”
The state department’s notification said that under Salahuddin’s tenure as a senior Hizb leader, the group “has claimed responsibility for several attacks” including the April 2014 explosives attack in Kashmir, which injured 17 people. He has also time and again “vowed to block any peaceful resolution to the Kashmir conflict” and “threatened to train more Kashmiri suicide bombers”.
This means that the America and its citizens are officially prohibited from engaging with Salahuddin in any trade or have links with his properties and interests. ” All Americans are generally prohibited from engaging in transactions with Salahuddin and all of Salahuddin’s property and interests in property subject to United States jurisdiction are blocked,” the US state department said in its notification.
This decision has come as a massive boost to India which has been dealing with cross border terrorism since decades with Pakistan. The PM Modi government has been very efficient in convincing the world that Pakistan is officially sponsoring terrorism which has put the world under severe threat.
