It is a most common notion that most of the minorities vote against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). In the past few decades, the Congress and its allies had managed to create a narrative that BJP is dangerous to the secular fabric of the nation. Several fake campaigns were launched to coat BJP as anti-minorities.
Interestingly, even after a massive effort to alienate the minorities from BJP, the saffron party has massively improved its performance in the minority dominated regions. This proves that PM Modi’s “Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas” has been accepted by everyone, irrespective of their caste and religion.
Now a report has revealed that BJP bagged more than 50% of the minority dominated seats. Times of India stated “BJP won more than 50% of the Lok Sabha seats in 90 ‘minority concentration’ districts identified in 2008 by the then UPA government”.
The reports have said that BJP has won a total of 41 seats out of 79 constituencies where the votes of minorities play a crucial role. In 2019 Lok Sabha elections, BJP improved its performance and won 7 seats more when compared to the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
Interestingly the Congress party, which was said to be the first preference of minority voters, has performed poorly in comparison with the last election. Stats says that Congress party lost half of the seats when compared to 2014 general elections by slipped to 6 seats from 12.
Revealing about where BJP outsmarted its rivals, Times of India stated “Nearly 20% of the country’s 130 crore people are Muslims. In the minority-concentration districts, the BJP gained the most in West Bengal, which has 18 such seats. In Raiganj in Uttar. Dinajpur district which has a Muslim population of nearly 49%, BJP’s Debasree Chaudhuri defeated TMC’s Agarwal Kanaialal by 60574 votes”.
After a thumping victory for the second term, PM Narendra Modi had instructed his team to win the trust of the minorities. This proves that the saffron party will bind the secular fabric of the nation.
