The media since 3-4 months is projecting that the ghat Bandhan formed with various political parties is the best way to counter BJP and PM Modi in the upcoming 2019 elections. But even before the ghat Bandhan takes shape, each party is trying to project their own people as the Prime Ministerial candidate for the upcoming 2019 elections.
While Sonia Gandhi is trying to project Rahul Gandhi as the next PM candidate, the other parties are also in their own ambitions to use the opportunity to depict themselves as PM candidates. From Andhra Pradesh, Chandra Babu Naidu wants to be the PM candidate for the coalition, from Telangana, K. Chandrashekar Rao is trying all his best to be the face of opposition’s PM candidate. Not to forget Mamata Banerjee is pushing too hard to be the PM candidate. She has even expressed her disagreement in accepting Rahul Gandhi as the opposition face openly which has irked many leaders in Congress.
With all the above developments, Mayawati is now planning to call herself the PM candidate for 2019 elections. The national executive committee meeting of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) is said to be held today, in which the members want to elect Mayawati as their PM candidate. “Apart from giving approval to a pre-poll alliance (in 2019), the executive committee is likely to pass a resolution announcing Mayawati as prime ministerial candidate,” a senior BSP leader said to Hindustan Times.
The party members said “She is the tallest Dalit leader with a pan-India appeal. Though BSP suffered crushing electoral defeats in the 2012 assembly, 2014 Lok Sabha and 2017 assembly elections, its support base is still intact,” the BSP leader said. To be sure, the party has no representatives in the Lok Sabha, but the leader says there is enough reason to back Mayawati for PM. “The BSP has an organisation in over a dozen states and has won seats in the assembly election in these states as well. Her projection as the PM candidate will mobilize the Dalit community in support of the alliance,” the BSP leader added, asking not to be identified. In the 2009 Lok Sabha elections too, the BSP had projected Mayawati as its prime ministerial candidate reported Hindustan Times.
The BSP members said that they are planning to tie up with SP and Congress for the general elections and talks are also going to be held for upcoming Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan elections, however, projecting Mayawati as the coalition’s PM candidate was the main agenda.
So basically, there are more than 4 candidates who want to call themselves PM material for the 2019 elections. Unfortunately, none of these candidates has shown National concerns in any developmental issue. But have remained in the same rhetoric talk of caste, religion, appeasement politics for decades and now want to be Prime Minister of the country.
This was the main reason why Mayawati, SP and many regional parties lost relevance in state elections as well as 2014 general elections. The only reason they have gotten together is because they are unable to survive without each other’s support in the Modi’s juggernaut. Mayawati, Akhilesh Yadav who had ruled UP for years, today are fighting existential crisis and are trying to grab anyone who can support them.
The worst part is the Congress which is a National party is itself trying to save from extinction. The reason for their desperation to join regional party is because their leader is simply unable to counter PM Modi in any way. PM Modi’s experience, shrewd thinking and oration is something no leader is able to match. His biggest strength has become his developmental reforms which are making people believe in him largely.
So, the Congress is using every regional party for its benefit to counter Modi and they will be the first ones to dump all of them the moment they grab the power. This has been their standard operating procedure since the time of Nehru where everyone has been used and thrown at their disposal. Sonia Gandhi has never spared her own party leaders like PV Narasimha Rao, Sitaram Kesari and Rajesh Pilot, Madhav Rao Scindia, Rajshekar Reddy who were all betrayed and stabbed in the back.
It is just monetary that Congress will use these regional parties as a ladder and ultimately leave them the moment they occupy power. The live example is how Congress has already started to dominate the coalition government in Karnataka and have hinted that supporting Kumaraswamy for 5 years is not something they promised.
Just watch….the moment Mayawati reveals her aspirations, this below picture will be removed from google Images!!!
With so many aspirants, selfish deeds and no accountability, the coalition will have short lifespan with each one pushing their own agenda just for political benefit.
