In another church rape incident, a pastor Bajinder Singh from Jalandhar, Punjab has been arrested. The victim who is a resident of Zirakpur town, adjoining Chandigarh, had complained to the police in May this year that Singh had sexually assaulted her and even recorded a video of the assault.
She alleged the accused used to threaten her that he would post the video on social media if she complained against him or did not agree to his demands. The police had launched look out a notice for the pastor as he was absconding after a complaint was filed. The police arrested the pastor from Delhi airport when he was about to board a flight to London. It is said that the Pastor was known for healing diseases with unnatural practices which had caused many controversies earlier.
The complaint included rape (376), cheating (420), outraging the modesty of woman (354), obscenity (294), causing hurt (323) and criminal intimidation (506) under IPC and Section 67 (transmitting sexually explicit content) of the Information Technology (IT) Act.
“We had received a complaint of rape from the woman in May this year. The accused was on the run since then. We had got a look out notice issued against him. We nabbed him when he was leaving for England,” the SHO said. (The Tribune). The police have also registered case against 3-4 other persons who were found to be involved in raping innocent women.
The incidents of church rape have seemingly increased in the recent days where a lot of women are filing complaints against sexual abuse and rape in the hands of Father and pastors. A firm action must be taken to protect the right of the women in the Church who are facing threats on a daily basis.
