An open letter to Mr Tarun Vijay from a ‘white’ South Indian girl!

Respected Tarun Vijayji,

Yesterday I was in a bus when I saw the news of your statement about black and white Indians. For a second, I was very much shocked to hear such words from a well educated person like you. Although I do not know much of your political background, I know that you had fought for the Tamilians and supported the installation of statue of Tiruvalluvar.  So I sincerely believe you have visited south India.

Coming to the point of racism, first I want to ask, what is racism and what does colour have to do with it? Secondly, who gave you the idea that all South Indians are black?

Let me be frank, North Indians have a typical mentality of calling every south Indian Madrassi. Are you people so ignorant that you believe that south India consists of only Chennai or Madras, as you people call it? Do you even know there are 5 other states in the south and part of Maharashtra also falls in south region? If you have no idea, let me list out the states in the south…. Karnataka, Andhra, Telengana, Tamil Nadu and Kerala.  So in what sense do you call all South Indians Madrasssi?

Now, Mr Vijay ji, can you please show me one state in North India where there are no dark skinned people? (I would not use the word black) Do you say that the entire North India has only fair people?

Sir, we are proud that we have an extra layer of melanin pigment in our skin which protects us better from skin diseases.

You people have a very bad habit of mocking everyone coming from South and East, don’t you?! Many people in Delhi have the habit of calling East India people “Chinkis.” It is because of a mentality like this, we see numerous attacks on North East people on daily basis.

Let me give you a clear picture of how South India treats ‘North Indians’, In Bangalore, Chennai and Hyderabad, there are large number of people from Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Jarkhand who come in search of jobs. But not once have the south Indians discriminated them, we have treated them as our own and given equal opportunity to them. Unlike your ally Shiv Sena leaders, South Indian haven’t attacked them on streets, burnt their shops and destroyed their living.

Should the South Indians also start giving weird names to these people, just like how you do for South people?

In your statement, you said ‘Having black people in South India, proves we aren’t racists” what do you mean by the word ‘have’?? Did you people give us land in south India? Were you the owner of the land to grant us place to stay?

South Indians belong to India and we have equal rights as any other Indian! This is the exact reason why some politicians in the South invented the fake Aryan theory and created differences between North and South.

Sir, you were the Rajya Sabha MP who represented the Bhartiya Janata Party and whose leader Narendra Modi is trying to unite India and trying to remove discrimination and differentiation. I am saddened by the fact that you did not understand your own leader’s words “SabKa Sath, Sabka Vikas.”

Skin colour doesn’t make a person great Vijay ji, it is the work of a person which describes him. If you really want to compare, then the great Indian Mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan was from South, Sir, M Vishveshwaraiah was from South, the first man who invented E-Mail was from south, Bharat Ratna Pandit Bhimsen Joshi was from south, Bharat Ratna M S Subbulakshmi was from South!

Were all these people seen as blacks? Or were they recognised because of their contribution?

Skin colour or place has nothing to do, so please remove the narrow mindedness of calling South Indians black or Madrassi from your head. Before you preach everyone about India, please try to respect fellow Indians also. Your words do not bring prestige to the organization or government you represent and I have great respect to that organization!

BTW, I am from Karnataka…..and I am pretty FAIR!!!
