Indian Government has declared to make Kashmir terror free by these winters, and it seems Army is exactly working out on a sure shot plan to achieve the objective. In last couple of months, Army has upped the ante and eliminated hundreds of dreaded Terrorists in brutal encounters.
Earlier Army was indulged in Southern Kashmir, and recently Army has shifted its focus on Northern districts and it was successful in removing many Top Terrorist Commanders in process. However there was not much done in the Shopian district, which is an unofficial cradle of Terrorism in Kashmir.
It is very important to understand the reason why Shopian is important to tackle strategically, most of the recent Terror commanders hail from Shopian. The Locals are extremely responsive and we can usually hear so many stone pelting incidents from Shopian. So it is very important to control the Shopian district to completely remove the evil of Terrorism from Kashmir.
However it seems Army has well laid plans and they are already working on them. Army is constantly adding to its presence in Shopian district, it has set up another camp at Dachoo, Nagbal village, barely a kilometer from the existing garrison at Dobipora. Earlier three newly garrisons were set up by army at three different villages of the district.
Villagers from Dachoo protested the setting up of the camp near their village.Eyewitness that protestors pelted stones on forces but could not stop the setting up of new camp.
Army recently built a camp in Dobipora village which is one kilometer away from village and now they set up another which depicts frustration of forces. People in Shopian are fearful about the setting up of more and more army camps in village areas. However the truth is something different, People in Shopian are more inclined towards Terrorism and they fear that Army’s presence may be counter-productive for them.
Army Officials have also confirmed this massive and crucial development. They also said that Operation All Out is giving amazing results and asserted that the situation in the valley was much better than last year.
Lt Gen Sandhu, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Srinagar based Chinar Corps, said the Army had increased its operating bases in southern parts of Kashmir with an aim to “clear the region” of militants as part of its ‘Operation All Out’.
The Army commander was speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a function at Delhi Public School in Srinagar where he inaugurated a computer museum.
“Last year, the presence of militants in southern parts of Kashmir had increased and especially in Shopian, there was a larger presence of militants. We had to continue operations against them. So, we have opened new operating bases there, at least seven to eight in Shopian. We have also increased operating bases in Pulwama and Kulgam. The aim is to try and clear that area of the presence of militants,” he said.
