Pakistan was humiliated once again as one of the US official questioned Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan’s silence over the treatment of Uighur Muslims in China.
Alice Wells, US Acting Secretary for South and Central Asia has asked Pakistan to express “same level” of concern about Uighur Muslims in China.
Alice Wells while replying to a question about Pakistan PM’s alleged concerns about Kashmir said “I would like to see the same level of concern expressed also about Muslims who are being detained in Western China, literally in concentration-like conditions”
“And so being concerned about the human rights of Muslims does extend more broadly than Kashmir, and you’ve seen the administration very involved here during the UN General Assembly and trying to shine a light on the horrific conditions that continue to exist for Muslims throughout China,” she added
It is said that more than one million Uighur Muslims have been kept in concentration camps in tightly controlled regions of China. Along with Uighurs other small Muslim communities are also trapped in such camps. China is also accused of selling the vital organs of the people in the concentration camps.
Though initially the existence of such camps were denied, Beijing now defends the camps, which it calls “vocational education centres”, as a necessary measure to counter religious extremism and terrorism.
When Khan was questioned about the Uighurs on Monday, he declined the comment saying, Pakistan has a “special relationship” with China and would raise issues in private.
For a country that loses no opportunity to portray itself as a defender of the rights of Muslims in J&K, the blind eye it turns to the plight of Uighur Muslims in China reveals Pakistan’s hypocrisy.
Imran Khan, once also had called himself as the ambassador of Kashmiri people, but does not bother about the Uighur Muslims in China.
Imran Khan had even said that the Beijing is Islamabad’s best friend and he frankly does not know much about the issue of Uighur Muslims in China.
Uighurs live in constant fear of arbitrary detention and can expect swift retribution for any expression of Turkic or Muslim identity to the absurd extent that giving your child a traditional Muslim name is illegal.
Pakistan’s best friend and so called defender of Muslims Turkey President Recep Tayyip Erdogen visited China and claimed that the Muslims were “living happily,” thanks to China’s general upward economic path.
China is a major economic and diplomatic partner of Pakistan and also the countries have strong military ties which help them to counter India and America.
Pakistan is the largest receivers of aid from China it also receives loan and infrastructure contracts which has been a lifeline for Pakistan economy.
There is a massive 62 billion dollar partnership between the two countries which consists of transport and energy.
Many countries have condemned China over their treatment of Uighurs but Pakistan which is considered as a backward country cannot afford to condemn China even if they want to. It is also said that Pakistan is controlled by China due to Pakistan’s dependency.
However, Chinese investment is vital for the country’s development and perhaps necessary even just to have enough economic activity to sustain the state and its massive army. This shows Pakistan is a failed country and does not have a stand of its own. Imran Khan talked in length about his version of conditions of Muslims in Kashmir using all the fancy words such ‘racist’, ‘fascist’ while expresses complete ignorance on the issues faced by Uighur Muslims.
