In what should come as a huge relief to her admirers and followers, External affairs minister Sushma Swaraj was today discharged from AIIMS, Delhi. The minister was admitted to the renowned hospital due to kidney problem. She underwent a kidney transplant surgery for the same on 10th December and had been recuperating. As per statement from the hospital “she was being monitored closely by a team of experts including transplant surgeons, endocrinologists and transplant nurses among others”.
The 64 year old minister, a diabetic, was admitted to AIIMS on 7th November. Post-surgery she was kept in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and was recovering well. The leader faced other health issues including pneumonia and was treated for the same too. However, despite her ill health, she made it a point to be available for those in distress.
The minister ensured that she was kept informed of the happenings in her ministry. She even responded to calls of distress as and when possible. In an exemplary display of dedication she reached out to help a widow, who had lost her husband in Japan recently. Not only did Mrs. Sushma respond to Swati Maliwal’s (Chairperson, Delhi Commission for Women) request but also assured that the Government would bear all the expenses for aiding the widow without any delay. This is, however, not the first time that the minister has rushed to the aid of Indians stranded abroad or facing troubles in a foreign country. She had earlier helped a Pakistani girl to get treatment in India as well. There are numerous instances of her helping out people on a mere tweet made to her.
It would be of interest to note that a foreign magazine recently named her a ‘global thinker’ and lauded her ‘novel Twitter diplomacy’.
