PM Modi announces ex-gratia relief of Rs 1 Lakh for the family of E-rickshaw driver killed in Delhi

PM Narendra Modi has sanctioned 1  Lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) as ex-gratia to the next of the kin of the E- rickshaw driver, Ravinder Kumar who was killed for asking a few people not to urinate in public. The Prime Minister is on a 6 day, 4 nation tour in Europe.

PM Modi condemned the incident and directed the authorities to book and punish the culprits for committing such an inhuman act. Urban Development & Information Broadcasting Minister, M Venkaiah Naidu visited the family of the E-rickshaw driver yesterday. The Union Minister along with Delhi BJP President Manoj Tiwari visited the family of Ravindra Kumar at GTB Nagar, New Delhi.

Venkaiah Naidu broke down while addressing the media. The Union Minister couldn’t control his emotions when he spoke about Ravindra Kumar’s wife, who was pregnant. Naidu handed over a cheque of Rs 50000 from his personal salary to the family, terming the act as condemnable.

BJP Delhi President Manoj Tiwari said that they would make every possible effort to assist the family of the deceased E- rickshaw driver. Ravinder Kumar was beaten up by a group of 15-20 people. He was attacked with towels which carried bricks. 3 other drivers who rushed to rescue him were also attacked.

Ravindra Kumar’s brother said that he wanted to see the brutes who had killed his brother for requesting them to keep up with the Clean India Mission. Kumar was a hero who faced the wrath of 15-20 goons. The E-rickshaw driver had offered to pay Rs 2 for their toilet fee. But the criminal minded youngsters returned later in the evening and killed the innocent.

Ravinder was very popular among the E rickshaw drivers and was not involved in a single brawl in his 32 years of existence. The attackers have been on the run since the attack. It has been alleged that some of the attackers were from Kirori Mal College, Delhi University.
