In a very surprise move, the RSS chief Mohan Bhagvat was invited by President Pranab Mukherjee for a lunch meeting in the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Friday. This is the very first time that the RSS chief has met the president in Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The timing of the meet has raised many speculation among the politicians since on the same day Rajnath Singh and Venkaiah Naidu met opposition leaders Sonia Gandhi and left parties to bring consensus for the Presidential polls.
However, both Rashtrapati Bhavan and RSS sources said the meeting was “scheduled earlier” and the President hosted Bhagwat for lunch. “It was a courtesy meeting as President Mukherjee will demit office next month. There was no agenda, no political talk,” said RSS sources.
The reason why many people think the meeting has political implications was because RSS Chief Mohan Bhagvat’s name was propped up for the President’s post by Shiv Sena. But the RSS chief had dismissed the proposal and said he was not in the race for the President’s post. Mohan Bhagvat had said, “Whatever is going on in the media won’t happen. I work in the Sangh. I don’t want to go there. I won’t accept it even if I get the offer.”
The Congress had always treated the RSS as a anti National organisation and had opposed their ideology for vote bank politics. But the RSS chief meeting the President in the Rashtrapati Bhavan has sent a significant message to the political class.
