What Did Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Warn Nehru About National Herald 70 Years Back??

One more skeleton from Nehru-Gandhi family tumbled out in 2013. BJP MP Subramanian Swamy filed a complaint in Delhi Court against Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in the National Herald Scam. The skeleton had been hidden for last 70 years by their ancestor Jawaharlal Nehru. But the skeletons of privileged Nehru-Gandhi family are protected in India like a national treasure.

The National Herald (India) was an Indian Newspaper Publication house founded by Jawaharlal Nehru in 1938. Congress Party was the owner of NH. After becoming the first Prime Minister of Independent India, Nehru and his family members used National Herald for collecting money for awarding government contracts to the dubious entities. Back then the role of Subramanian Swamy was played by none other than the Iron Man of India, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. The revolt of sardar Patel against the malpractices conducted by PM Nehru can be seen in the correspondence between the two politicians.

In his letter dated May 5th, 1950, Sardar Patel warned PM Nehru about his shady deals with undesirable entities for collecting huge sums of money for National Herald. Home Minister Sardar Patel mentioned two names of persons whom Nehru favored by misusing of Government machinery. One of them was a businessman named Akhani from Himalayan Airways. Nehru had accepted Rs 75000/- from Himalayan Airways for helping them grab the contract for Night Air Mail illegally. Indian Air Force too registered its objection. Akhani was then facing cheating charges in many courts for defrauding banks. Nehru was misusing his power in helping such fraudsters in looting India. Nehru’s Union Minister Ahmad Kidwai helped the businessman with bad reputation, J P Srivastava. All for the hefty donations to National Herald!

Nehru’s son-in-law, Feroze Gandhi (Indira Gandhi’s husband) was working as the General Manager of National herald . Nehru tried to pacify Sardar Patel in an off-handed way by assuring him about inquiring his son-in-law about the matter. The next day, Sardar Patel attacked Nehru for clarification in the matter of illegal funding of National Herald. There are five letters written by Sardar Patel to Nehru with regard to National Harald scam. Sardar Patel did not get any specific answers to his queries from Nehru.

The Scam that started with regard to National Herald by Nehru was carried forward by his son-in-law. His current successors Sonia and Rahul Gandhi took the National Herald scam to the new level. Whether Indians get justice in the court of Law against these miscreants is a matter of debate. Whether the struggle of Patel against this malpractice of National Herald will meet justice in Subramanian Swamy’s fight? Let’s hope it does.
