“Dalits and Muslims are the most ignored community in India”. This narrative was successful in India for decades to separate Dalits from Hinduism. What we heard till date was that Dr B R Ambedkar was fed up of Hinduism and wanted to embrace other religion. But no one said us why Dr Ambedkar tried to convert the Dalits into Buddhism and not any other religion.
Why Dr Ambedkar tried to convert Dalits into Buddhism?
Today, Dalits have become a prey of the political agenda that “they will get a better future if they separate themselves from Hindus”. But no one asked why didn’t Dr Ambedkar embrace Islam or Christianity? When this question starts haunting every Dalit, they will realise that Hinduism is the best for them.
“The Muslim invaders, no doubt, came to India singing a hymn of hate against the Hindus. … Its (Islam’s) growth is so thick in Northern India that the remnants of Hindu and Buddhist culture are just shrubs. Even the Sikh axe could not fell this oak. Sikhs, no doubt, became the political masters of Northern India, but they did not gain back Northern India to that spiritual and cultural unity by which it was bound to the rest of India before Hsuan Tsang.”
This was written by Dr Ambedkar in his book “Pakistan or the Partition of India”. So it is obvious that he didn’t have any interest to join Islam.
Why Dr Ambedkar didn’t embrace Christianity?
“Indian Christians like all other Indians are divided by race, by language and by caste. Their religion has not been a sufficiently unifying force as to make difference of language, race and caste as though they were mere distinctions. On the contrary, their religion which is their own cement is infected with denominational differences. The result is that Indian Christians are too disjointed to have a common aim, to have a common mind, and to put a common endeavour”, these are the words of Dr Ambedkar about Christianity.
He furthers said that “If the depressed classes embrace Christianity or Islam they not go out of the Hindu religion, but also they go out of the Indian culture. Conversion to Christianity or Islam would de-nationalise the depressed classes”
He praised Hinduism over Islam
“The existence of these evils among Muslims is distressing enough. But far more distressing is the fact that there is no organized movement of social reform among the Muslamans of India on a scale sufficient to bring about their eradication. The Hindus have their social evils. But there is this relieving feature about them – namely, that some of them are conscious of their existence and a few of them are actively agitating for their removal. The Muslims, on the other hand, do not realize that they are evils and consequently do not agitate for their removal. Indeed, they oppose any change in their existing practices.”
Why he failed miserably to covert the Dalits?
Lord Buddha is also considered as the ninth reincarnation of Lord Vishnu. So instead of embracing other religion, he decided to join Buddhism which had similarities with Hinduism.
But it can be said that Dr Ambedkar failed miserably to convince the Dalits to join the other religion. Even after several decades, there are crores of Dalits in India who follow Hinduism and this is the proof that they still believe in Hinduism and its culture.
This is also a big blow to all those pseudo seculars who tried hard to separate Dalits from Hinduism. If Dalits really faced atrocities at the hands of Hindus, than how could Ram Nath Kovind reach the top position of India’s President?
Well, for this they don’t have any answer other than saying that he is an RSS man.
Today, certain brigade is trying to highlight only certain quotes of Dr Ambedkar and is trying to show that Hinduism is a worst religion. But in reality, they have hidden the major part of Dr Ambedkar’s opinion which was pro-Hinduism.
