With Sonia and Rahul Gandhi losing relevance in Amethi and Rae Bareli, from which place will they contest in 2019 elections?

For the first time after 3 decades, the Gandhi family has lost relevance in their homes turf of Amethi and Rae Bareli. In the 2014 general elections it was well known how Smriti Irani gave a tough fight to Rahul Gandhi.

Amethi and Rae Bareli has been the Gandhi bastion since 4 decades from the time of Indira Gandhi, Sanjay Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi and now Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. Although the places have been ruled by 2 former Prime ministers and the most powerful family of the Indian politics, both the places have not seen any development since 40 years.

There have been no developmental projects, no connectivity, no employment for the youths. People even today do not have clean drinking water facility. The industries which had to be started 10 years back, did not receive any support from Congress government in the centre which made the industries backtrack from the project.

After Modi government took over in 2014, Smriti Irani has been relentlessly working in Amethi, many central government projects have been implemented in Amethi and Rae Bareli. People have now started to believe that they need a real leader and not just people who win with a Gandhi tag.

The biggest blow to Sonia and Rahul Gandhi came in the recent UP elections, where the Congress lost all seats in Amethi to BJP. Out of 10 seats in Amethi and Rae Bareli, 8 seats have been won by BJP which shows the anger of people against the Gandhi family.

It can be well noted that during run up for UP elections, Sonia Gandhi remained away from campaigning, she did not address a single meeting or rally in her own constituency of Rae Bareli. The main reason was because she very well knew that people had lost faith in them and it was impossible for her to attract crowds. Priyanka Gandhi who was initially projected as the star campaigner for Congress did not even make an attempt to speak to people. Smriti Irani had openly challenged her to take questions from common man of Amethi and Rae Bareli, for which she had no face.

Now the big question is, will Gandhis continue to contest from Amethi and Rae Bareli in 2019 elections?

Looks like the chances are very slim, since Rahul Gandhi has huge apprehensions about his win in 2019 elections in Amethi. Smriti Irani who has projected herself as the best contender against Rahul has more chances of winning the next elections in Amethi. In that case, Rahul Gandhi will even fail to be MP and his relevance both in party and in opposition will become null. Rahul Gandhi who is facing wrath for his lack of leadership qualities already, will have no face to call himself a leader. On the other hand Sonia Gandhi is keeping herself out of politics giving the reason of her health, but the fact is she wants to project Rahul Gandhi as the next leader of Congress and is planning to project Priyanka Gandhi from Rae Bareli.

But the reality is there are more chances that the Gandhi family may be rejected from Amethi and Rae Bareli.

Henceforth internal sources in the Congress say that the high command is planning to shift the location of Gandhis from Uttar Pradesh to another state. The Gandhi’s now want a safe seat from other state just to make sure they do not lose elections.

According to few sources, the Gandhis are planning to contest from South India along with Amethi and Rae Bareli in the next elections. Given the fact that they have no chances in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Rajastan. In Andhra Pradesh, Congress lost complete base after the division of the state.

Most probably they may opt for a seat in Karnataka, Gulbarga constituency occupied by Congress strong man Mallikarjun Kharge, since Chikkamagalore is now completely dominated by BJP and Congress will make no attempt to try their luck. There may be a chance they may even opt to contest from Kerala. Thiruvanantapuram, Wayanad, Alappuzha, may be some of the probable constituencies.

One thing is clear by these developments, the Gandhi dynastic politics in India are definitely coming to an end.
