SP Manju, the Dalit woman who tried to enter Sabarimala temple is a Congress leader and had fought election on a Congress ticket

After the Supreme Court verdict on Sabarimala temple, many women tried to make an attempt to enter the shrine not because they are the real followers of the Lord Ayyappa. But they were activists who wanted to hurt the religious sentiments of the other devotees.

After journalist Kavitha Jakkala, a Hyderabad-based news anchor, along with a three-member crew, and Muslim women Rehana Fathima from Ernakulam now the addition to this list is SP Manju. Although SP Manju, like other women too presented herself as real devotee but reports in social media suggests a different story and hints at a bigger political conspiracy

Who is SP Manju, the women who tried to enter the Sabarimala temple?

It has come to forefront that SP Manju, a Dalit activist who is currently a state Secretary of the Kerala Dalit Mahila Federation Chathannoor, Karunagappally is infact a Congress leader who has even contested on Congress ticket for local polls. Before joining Congress, she was part of CPI (M) Government.

It is also being reported that there are as many as 14 criminal cases pending against Manju, including ones registered for taking part in protests. Some reports too suggest that her real name is SP Manju Joseph and she has converted to Christianity

According to some reports it has also come to forefront that she has been promised by Seetaram Yechury led CPI(M) that if she manages to enter the temple and break the Hindu tradition all cases against her will be withdrawn

SP Manju has sought police protection when she arrived in Pamba on Saturday afternoon to continue her journey further. Initially she was requested by the police to turn away on account of the tense situation prevailing in the area but when she insisted the police that she is a true follower of Lord Ayyappa the police invested her and said final call on her visit and providing security to her will be given after a background check to verify that she was a devotee and not an ‘activist’.

According to the latest reports there is no clear status of SP Manju visit to temple. While some reports say SP Manju (38), the Kerala Dalit Mahila Federation President, has abandoned her attempt to visit Sabarimala after being denied the special security cordon. Inspector General Sreejith had said the heavy rain in Sabarimala made it very difficult for his team to attempt the trek and this was conveyed to Manju but on the other side some social media users are too saying that she is on the way for her visit

Meanwhile the Kerala Government has barred the media persons to enter Sabarimala temple area and also Pamba. The government has ordered all media persons to evict the shrine area and Pamba citing reports of a possible attack on media persons whereas it is being seen by some as an attempt by Government to suppress the devotees and hurt their religious sentiments by taking the women activists inside the temple

What Congress Government has to now say on this? Earlier the Congress Government has stated that it stands with the religious sentiments of devotees then why it is trying to hurt the devotees now.
