This is what happened to the Nun when she attended the funeral of father Kuriakose, who died under mysterious circumstances

Within days after Bishop Franco Mulakkal was released on bail, the key witness in the nun rape case dies. The death got a sensational twist after the family of the deceased father Kuriakose said that there is a conspiracy behind the death and it happened only because father Kuriakose supported the Nuns.

On 22nd October father Kuriakose died under mysterious circumstances and during his funeral a shocking incident had taken place. Sister Anupama–who had led the protest demanding the arrest of Boship Franco–was heckled and was asked to leave the cemetery at St Mary’s church in Pallipuram during the funeral.

Devastated by this, sister Anupama said “I am from this place. I know Father Kattuthara for many years. He has seen me as his own daughter.. we have only stood for truth”. She even said that she was deeply hurt by the protests.

This is really a shocking incident. Not just because how the people who slammed Bishop Franco are targeted, but also because the Nun and family of father Kuriakose didn’t even get any support from the self proclaimed feminists and crusaders of female rights.

After the death of father Kuriakose, sister Anupama expressing suspicion over the death had said “We are very shocked to hear this news. Father Kuriakose has taught me and he was part of our parish as well. He was a crucial witness in our case as he had given statements against Bishop Franco to the police. I haven’t been in touch with him but I had heard from other priests that he had been facing a lot of pressure of late, with many in the church pointing fingers at him. We feel the circumstances of his death are suspicious and may affect our case against Bishop Franco”.

On 23rd October the Hoshiarpur Police (Punjab) has registered a case under Section 174 of CrPC, after father Kuriakose’s brother had expressed suspicion on the death. Note that days before his death, father Kuriakose had said “The sisters had approached me complaining about Bishop Franco. They did not approach the Kerala police fearing the bishop. In fact, I fear what will happen to me for speaking out against him”.

There were even allegations that the Punjab police are sabotaging the investigations. Now it is the need of the hour that the central authorities must step in and undertake an unbiased investigation.
