Yogi Adityanath demands reservation for SC/ST and OBC in Aligarh Muslim University and Jamia Millia Islamia in Delhi

When Manmohan Singh was the Prime Minister of India, he had once said that the minorities should have first right over every facility in the country. Seems like the rules were also applied having the same concept in mind.

While every college/ educational institution in India must provide reservation to SC/ST and OBC sections of the society, there are few minority institution to which this rule is not applied. Yes, the Aligarh Muslim University in Uttar Pradesh and Jamia Millia Islamia in Delhi do not provide any reservation to SC/ST and OBCs of the country.

Despite these two Universities are funded by central government and receive maximum benefit, they do not provide any reservation to backward sections or SC/ST communities which is absurd.

But the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath has now demanded reservation to SC/ST in the two minority institutions as well. He while addressing a programme in Chhibramau area in UP’s Kannauj district, said that when Banaras Hindu University is providing reservations to SC and ST, why isn’t AMU and JMI providing reservation to Dalits?

In his speech, he said all those people who boast to be Dalit leaders and project themselves to fight for Dalit rights should demand the same he said. Adityanath also added that there was no discrimination in the schemes being run by the central government and they were meant for the welfare of all including Dalits and backwards.

But just hours after his speech, the AMU denied claims that the university provides reservation to students on the basis of religion. “Currently, we don’t have reservation on religious basis. Aligarh Muslim University’s admission policy falls under SC jurisdiction. The matter is pending before SC. Fifty percent reservation is for internal students. We’ll follow court’s decision,” said Professor Shafey Kidwai, member-in-charge of PRO AMU.

The BJP has been strongly pitching for reservations in AMU and Jamia Millia since 2 years which has put the opposition in a fix. “Any central government funded or aided institute must have provisions of reservation for SC, ST, and OBCs as per the Central government rules,” BJP had said.  The people who call themselves to be protectors of Dalit hide themselves when this issue is raised every time. Jignesh Mevani who had made big speeches on SC/ST rights has nothing to say when it comes to providing reservations for SC/ST in Muslim universities. This is nothing about hypocrisy of these so called activists who misuse SC/ST for their benefit and get votes. All their talk is just for media bytes and publicity and nothing in real.
